This weekend I am – wait for it – going on HOLIDAY. That’s not something I thought I’d be saying in 2020, and even though it’s only a staycation (of course) I’m more excited for this than any overseas trip I’ve taken in years. My boyfriend and I will be hiring a car and making our way down to the South Coast for a week by the sea, and the weather is set to be glorious. Cue days reading on the beach, summer barbecues and a nerve-testing dip in the English Channel. I can almost feel my toes sinking into the golden sa- ahem, pebbles.
You may be thinking that you’ve missed the boat for Spring/Summer 2020 swimwear but take a look at the forecast and it’ll tell you the season isn’t over yet. Whether you’re staycationing close to home or braving international travel, here’s some luxury swimwear inspiration for what will probably be your most-anticipated getaway to date.
The Sustainable Swimwear
Right at the top of my wish list is Fisch, the St Barths-based brand that creates gorgeous bikinis and swimsuits out of fishing nets and ocean waste, which are transformed into ECONYL. Not only does Fisch have a foreward-thinking ethos, but its designs are also super on-trend. They have everything from flattering high-waist bikinis to sportier crop tops, but my personal favourite is this really feminine tie top with V-cut bottoms. I can’t resist a leopard print.
The Instagram Bikini
The signature crinkle texture of Hunza G swimwear has been making waves with influencers, proving this to be one of the coolest bikinis you can take on your staycation. Each one is handmade in London from super stretchy material that fits sizes 6-14 (ok, not that inclusive unfortunately) which means it’s comfortable for swimming and is also easily adjustable – the bottoms can be worn low-rise or above the hips depending on what flatters you most.
The Glamorous Two-Piece
Because any chance of a beach break in 2020 is something worth celebrating, this Oséree bikini calls out to me with its ’80s-style glitziness. The two-tone mix feels really cool combined with a very simple shape, and as the result the sparkle isn’t too out-there. I also love how high the bottoms sit – if they don’t suck in a lockdown pot belly then nothing will.
The Mermaid Swimsuit
I love the coverage of a swimsuit (abs, where you at?) and I love it even more in this walking-on-sunshine yellow colour from ultra-cool London brand PAPER. Not only is this design gorgeous with its seashell cups, it’s also got SPF 50+ UV protection, which is ideal for skin that has been housebound and is about to get the shock of its life. Oh, and it’s made from sustainable, recycled materials to protect the homes of the real mermaids.
Are you sneaking in a holiday before the end of summer? If so, what swimwear brands will you be packing?
