Picture the scene. Your foundation has run out, and whether you just didn’t like it or our cruel, cruel world has discontinued it, it’s now time to go back to the drawing board and pick an entirely new one. You google best foundation for [insert skin type here] and get bombarded with so many options that you ‘x’ the window out of sheer terror.
Go to the makeup counters instead, you assure yourself, that will be better. But when you’re there, you spend 70% of your time trying not to make eye contact with the lingering MUA and the remaining energy pumping swatches onto your hand, making ‘hmm’ noises of deep consideration while you wonder what the hell this gloop will look like on your face. Let me emerge through the mist like an ‘80s music video star and rescue you from this plight with this nugget of advice: Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation is the one to choose.
I’ll caveat that – because I know there’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to makeup – by saying this is the foundation for you if you want decent coverage that lasts pretty much all day. Plus, has a beautifully lightweight feel and a subtle glow. I’m a longtime lover of Nars foundations but found that Sheer Glow and All Day Luminous couldn’t stay in place for the whole of the working day, whereas Natural Radiant Longwear lives up to its name. If you’re super oily you’ll probably want to powder after application, but as I’m only moderate on the oil-slick scale I find I don’t really have to with this one.
Here’s the part where you get to see my 7:30am puffiness and general Casper complexion, yay! But, for the sake of an accurate before and after, I’ll deal with having my no-makeup face online. In photo one there is nothing on my face except moisturiser (I like Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream, in case you were interested). In photo two I’ve applied the foundation in shade ‘Mont Blanc’ on its own, and then filled in my brows with Nude by Nature’s Precision Brow Mascara and popped a slick of lipstick on.
And finally, here’s me with the full face. My blusher and highlighter are both in powder form so I suppose that gives me a bit of a setting effect, however I didn’t add any translucent setting powder on top. I had no top-ups in the day and this face honestly took me from my early morning bus, through a full day at the office and then onto Friday night drinks in Covent Garden. Sure, it would’ve looked better had I reapplied after work, but the point is I didn’t feel the need and that’s what I want from a foundation. Sometimes, we’re just too busy to bother.
Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation retails at £35 and is available at pretty much all your beauty websites and stores. I bought mine from SpaceNK.
Have you tried Nars’ newest addition? If not, what’s your holy grail foundation? Would love some recommendations in the comments!
